Warrior Nun: Season 1 (2018)

Season 1
Warrior Nun

Critics Consensus

Though Warrior Nun's heavy handed set-up weighs it down, committed performances and excellent fight choreography may be enough for those looking for more pulp with their pulpit.

Critic Reviews for Warrior Nun Season 1

All Critics (32) | Top Critics (8)

Despite some flat dialogue and a predictable plot there is an agreeable energy to Warrior Nun... Nuns on the run have always known how to party.

Jul 6, 2020 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

The script can sometimes lean too much on mythological and religious exposition... but the actors have such good chemistry that their various pairings work, and the smartly choreographed fight scenes are well-placed.

Beside being as doe-eyed as lookalike Emilia Clarke, green Baptista doesn't have enough charm or gravitas as a performer to carry such tedious material.

Jul 2, 2020 | Full Review…

Warrior Nun may not break the mold when it comes to supernatural adventure, but it tells its unexpected "chosen one" story very well and is carried quite nicely by lead Alba Baptista in her first English-speaking role.

Jul 7, 2020 | Rating: 7/10 | Full Review…

It takes far too long for the show to even remotely take off. Just like the opening prayer on a Sunday church morning that can sometimes go on forever, this show refused to get to the point.

Jul 7, 2020 | Rating: 2/5 | Full Review…

The whole show feels stretched too thin, the action and character reveals doled out sparingly, presumably so Barry and the writers can extend the show's mysteries.

Jul 6, 2020 | Full Review…

A very satisfying fantasy adventure that balances plot and character development. Baptista is a revelation! [Full Review in Spanish]

Jul 2, 2020 | Full Review…

It absolutely is [fun to watch], despite the barely held-together plot and mythos.

Jul 2, 2020 | Full Review…

Warrior Nun has more than enough appealing factors to keep us watching.

Jul 2, 2020 | Full Review…

While Warrior Nun gets off to a rocky start, it rebounds the second half leaving you hopeful for a season 2.

Jul 2, 2020 | Full Review…

A singular, silly Hero's journey with a witty teen antihero transforms into an epic, ensemble story that's refreshingly ballsy and mature in the way it tackles oft controversial subject matter.

Jul 2, 2020 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

Warrior Nun is a truly wild journey that manages to ask some tough questions while equally embracing its silliness, its action, and the absolute absurdity of it all. The show may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is one hell of a fun ride.

The storyline was very good with some twists that I was not expecting. If you are looking for something that is primarily fighting, look elsewhere, this show is more about relationships and character development. Looking forward to season 2.

I am on episode 6 and could not be more bored. Is this supposed to be an action show? The warrior nun still has to be convinced to accept her destiny at this point. Pick up the damn sword already and get to the damn point. Where is this even going? Is there even a bad guy? Yawn.

Good acting, fun team you can enjoy pulling for, interesting plot.

Season 2 better come out soon. So the show was a little bit sluggish and the plot felt like three different series at a go. The switch from teen drama to fighting demons to science but overall it picked up. In a way I understood it was all character development which I feel many of the latest shows haven't had that much. But that ending needed one more episode

The show has a little bit of a slow start since it has world building and exposition to get out of the way to set the tone and backstory, but once it starts ramping up, it's silly casual fun. There's some cool plot points and a twist that makes you want to watch the whole series all over again so season 1 has a rewatchable value to it that's not just for pure enjoyment. All the characters are interesting and we've only seen the surface, but I'm really hoping that season 2 delves into their backstories more in depth because they all seem like they have very different pasts and they all have a story to tell. The cast is diverse, the acting is stellar (everyone really has their own unique characterization that doesn't feel forced), and overall I'm excited to see more things revealed as the series continues.

Adorei um série diferente e cheia de poder feminino

This show progressed so poorly and slowly... and the main character was driving me nuts. She made NO sense. Paralyzed her whole life then is reborn with superpowers and is basically invincible and doesn't wanna use her powers?! WHO WOULD DO THAT?! I don't wanna drop spoilers on you... so without doing that, let me say that everything she did made no sense and didn't even line up with what previously happened in the show. So dumb. Terrible writing. This show was the worst example of "reluctant hero" that I have ever watched. I was literally annoyed at the end of the show... and I love fantasy/sci-fi... and watch stuff that's pretty terrible but still see the good in it. I can't believe Netflix picked up this show and cancelled the OA. It honestly made me lose a lot of hope for netflix. Honestly I never leave reviews and this show annoyed me so much that I had to post this. First review on RT. If you don't expect much from this show, you might still even be disappointed. Beware. I gave it ONE full star (instead of half a star) because the special effects were... passable.
