Critic Reviews for Hannibal Season 3

All Critics (47) | Top Critics (20)

If Hannibal wasn't already too cerebral for the average horror fan, it may have accidentally stumbled into the muck of pretension... But despite the audience-building challenges Fuller sometimes throws in the path of his monster, it's hard to hate him.

The meal being served is different, but the chef remains the same. And viewers need not fear what Hannibal cooks up next.

On every level, Bryan Fuller and the team behind Hannibal are elevating what we should expect from network television.

Hannibal enthralls the viewer's aesthetic sense with its stunning photography, sophisticated use of imagery, and breathtaking beauty while at the same time threatening to steal away our soul, dragging it deep into the void.

The precise and surgical control Hannibal has always exercised is starting to unravel and it's exciting to see how his downfall eventually unfolds.

Thanks to some sharp dialogue pleated with myriad meanings, Mikkelsen and Anderson enthrall just as much as the show's usual histrionic, CGI-addled murder-as-performance-art setpieces.

This is a wonderful, beautiful, and captivating plummet into madness.

'Twas the most deliciously warped love letter ever written by a horrifically, beautiful mind.

It might as well be on the silver screen at a film festival for the level of auteuritsm on display. If you aren't watching, you're missing out.

The degree to which Hannibal is willing to withhold answers and meaning while still managing to present a thoroughly engrossing show from week-to-week is refreshing.

Its boldest, most ambitious, and most novelistic [season] yet, though it runs the risk of becoming too caught up in its own aesthetic.

In this, Hannibal remains beautifully consistent as one of the most poetic shows on television.

Audience Reviews for Hannibal: Season 3

  • Jun 25, 2020
One of the weakest shows ever. Too bad for the actors who have a reputation of working for much better projects, first of all, Hugh Dancy and Laurence Fishburne. The movie is pretentious, disjunctive, bluntly stupid, with the never ending a la "philosophical" debates between Lecter and Will, with no meaning, and with very predictable "twists" of the script. Lecter could have been caught much more easily in Season 1 or 2 already, yet, the patrons of this project wanted to pile up more bloody scenes just for the sake of it. Was quite surprised to see a very poor performance by Gillian Anderson, thought it was just X-Files Dana Sculley role that made her play badly back then, but as a Bedelia, the "psychiatrist", who in Season 1 and 2 was yet mysterious, but by the end of the movie became so obviously a parody of her character that it became simply annoying, especially that manner of speaking through hushed whisper dying out in her throat every time she opened her mouth. Bad job, Gillian, shame on you. Also a very repetitive and cheap twist with that Japanese girl, a Lecter's devotee. So trite and so stereotypical. Emerged form nowhere and vanished din nowhere... Hallo? A line with the pig king was so boring too that I had to fast forward half of the movie with him and his sister. Oh my, what a waste of money spent on this. And time: was waiting for something to happen in a better line of the genre, like in The silence of the lambs, for example, but alas. A poor screen writing behind the movie.

Love the character, their story and chemistry. Never looked forward to a show that much before.

This made me glad mizumono wasn't the end

To me, this is the best show that was broadcast on a mainstream Network. It pushed all the limits on network TV and hung on for 3 seasons of brilliant writing, acting and testing the limits of the time. This show would easily survive for the full intended 6 seasons they thrived for and maybe that is why season 3 ended the way it did, which was intended to fill that void and be a proper ending. I would love to see more though and I hope Netflix could provide that. It all depends on will people watch all three seasons now on Netflix or will the plethora Netflix provides now will drown them out. God I hope not...

Started out good but ended terribly, I had GOT flashbacks again.

If you're into horror and enjoyed the Hannibal movies, then this series is a MUST for you!
  • Jun 16, 2020
Hannibal is, without question, the best show I've ever seen. Nothing I've seen since quite compares. It's art as much as it's entertainment and I recommend it to everyone.
  • Jun 16, 2020
Absolutely STUNNING, it's a shame Bryan Fuller's vision had to end here.

I loved it! And I miss it so so much! Where's season 4??
  • Jun 16, 2020
Some people say season 3 isn't as good as the previous seasons, I couldn't disagree more. Season 3 is just as interesting and beautifully crafted. The issue was the season was cancelled halfway through filming, so the creators blended what would have been season 4 with season 3, which is why the last series takes a dramatic turn. However I think this was masterfully done and thoroughly enjoyed the final season. The makers say they have more to show us and I'd love to see an actual season 4.
