Dare Me: Season 1 (2019 - 2020)

Season 1
Dare Me

Critics Consensus

Visceral, if at times vapid, Dare Me's slow-burning thriller pairs nicely with its moody atmospherics to create a deft exploration of the interiority of teen life.

Critic Reviews for Dare Me Season 1

When that disorienting, who-to-believe framework gets reflected from multiple angles, "Dare Me" truly delivers.

Such plotting -- of teenage girls being pitted against each other and drifting apart -- could come off cliche, but Dare Me does more than incorporate the trope. It examines the way conflict warps the girls' perception of each other, giving it more nuance.

It's so smart about the characterization of its leads, and its central three actors are so specific in their deft performances, that it pays off.

A worthwhile time investment for midseason, offering something more venturesome than your standard good time with bad people.

A dark, twisted, addictive teen drama to become a solid obsession. [Full Review in Spanish]

hese are a bunch of mean Mean Girls, with Marlo Kelly (pictured) outstanding as brittle baddie Beth, victim of a deeply dysfunctional family.

Mar 20, 2020 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

Dare Me is the sort of teen drama that runs with that insanity and goes home with the gold because of it. Just as the cheerleaders on the series can become addicted to making it as a "top girl," you'll get addicted to this brief, deranged binge.

Mar 11, 2020 | Full Review…

Dare Me feels like one of those shows that you're either going to buy into from the start or just shrug and abandon because the story isn't moving along fast enough.

Jan 2, 2020 | Full Review…

What was at first a seemingly relaxed teen drama soon proves itself to be a skillfully told thriller with a penchant for surprises and twists that don't undercut the power of the narrative.

Dec 31, 2019 | Full Review…

The jury is out on whether or not this turns into a mystery we care about, but the pilot makes a strong case to at least stay tuned in.

Dec 30, 2019 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

Dare Me is long on atmosphere, short on plot, and distressingly overburdened with anachronistic dialogue.

Dec 30, 2019 | Full Review…

Come for the mean girl inter-squad drama, stay for the psychological mind games and the constant threat of violence. Every detail, every look, camera angle, and turn of the head feels perfectly calibrated.

For be honest, I didn't expect a lot, I thought It will be a normal adolescent drama, but I was wrong: It has a very good plot twist, a really nice story. I really liked the music, the ambient... the production in general was awesome.

    Needs more cheering action

Honestly one of the best shows i've ever seen. Hope it gets renewed! It's a slow burn but it's worth it. All of the characters have so many layers and it's perfect. Truly.

First off it starts off strong. Then it becomes a sludge fest of characters who are a complete turn off to watch. Bad decisions, coach, just irritating, bad acting lead cheerleader, adults who are one dimensional characters. Anti military, is a real big turn off. I'm not in the military, but they really go after them and put them in a bad light. Kinda racist writing, black single mother is a rock hard working, very caring, no shown faults. Black daughter being used by older white women, but is an angel with no shown faults. White characters, the knives come out, which is typical of sooooo many shows now, all the white writers must have a guilty conscience longer then their arm. It gets more unwatchable as it goes along. Going to finish it, but can't wait for it end. Bad ideas and writing can really turn a fun show into a slog.

The first time I saw the commercial 6 months ago for Dare Me I knew this show would be a total rip off of Euphoria on HBO, from the music to the slow motion camera angles in the hallways and kids partying. Except this show is much slower and focuses more on the cheerleading and doesn't have as much character development... and because it's on USA it obviously can't have the hardcore sex and drugs and violence... Don't waste your time with this show, go watch Euphoria at least Zendaya is in that show.

Rediculously unrealistic depiction of of hoghschool. Teacher smoking in school office regularly with student present. Teacher hosting druken parties regularly. In 2019? How stupid. Finally....the lead women....the coach...has zero redeemable qualities. She is basically a horrible sociopath that you want to see go to jail.

Excellent adaptation that gets better as it goes on. With the recent trends of 'behind the scenes' documentaries on cheerleading, this murder mystery adds the extra elements of "Notes on a Scandal", peppering a small-town-teen clique milieu. The actresses playing the younger athletes (the two leads especially) are particularly impressive for both their acting and what are some very challenging stunts for cheerleading. The author herself was involved with this series, which is reflected in the tightly unwinding plot that subtly hints at the tragedy throughout.
