Cursed: Season 1 (2020)

Season 1
Cursed

Critics Consensus

Cursed's first season isn't as subversive as its source material, but strong plotting and a heroic performance from Katherine Langford make for an enjoyable escape.

Critic Reviews for Cursed Season 1

"Cursed" is ultimately, of course, an origin story. But whose origin? Learning the answer to that question is what makes it interesting.

Jul 18, 2020 | Full Review…

It takes some gumption to call a show "Cursed"; happily this harmless exercise doesn't live down to its name.

It felt like they were trying to fit too many storylines into the season [...] and because of that the show has a hard time finding its footing.

A decent start to a story that I hope will unfold unpredictably in future seasons. [Full review in Spanish]

I could have watched more, but I was happy to walk away...

Aug 7, 2020 | Full Review…

It's all quite fun, and watching to the end will yield a fair few surprises, although it does feel at times to be positioning the characters ready for a more recognisable take on the King Arthur story.

Never magical, but those armed with patience will be rewarded with acceptable swords and sorcery entertainment. [Full Review in Spanish]

Aug 5, 2020 | Full Review…

Cursed falls into the trap of many expendably bingeable shows, relying on its audience to passively let the next episode play in the vague hope that something might start to make sense soon.

Aug 4, 2020 | Full Review…

All of these elements coming together should add up to an interesting and well-balanced show... [This season] doesn't quite nail the tone it is going for.

Aug 1, 2020 | Rating: 5.5/10 | Full Review…

While not a solid in doctrine to the mystical stories of old, Cursed will most certainly keep viewers entertained while introducing a new generation to the stories of old.

Jul 28, 2020 | Full Review…

Beyond the glorious castles, chaste fields, and untamed forests, the fantasy series has nothing much to offer - exposing the superficial treatment of its craft and narrative...

Jul 28, 2020 | Full Review…

The show isn't without its charms, even if it never quite rises to its own potential, but its biggest stumbling block might be that it isn't ever quite the show you're expecting.

Audience Reviews for Cursed: Season 1

I loved this. Its magic system is really interesting - shamanic, and I love the King Authur legends. The way this series captures the terror of the Witch Craze in the middle ages is really effective, and I found it interesting to think about what it might have been like here in England back in the day, during the fall of Paganism and the rise of Christianity. The heavy sense of shame put on the 'Fae', the dehumanization of non-Christians. The acting is awesome and the chemistry between the two leads, Nimue and Authur, is great - both are hot.

Wokeness and bad direction strikes again
  • Sep 09, 2020
The cultural appropriation and racism makes this show unwatchable.
  • Sep 07, 2020
Good fantasy show on par with the witcher. Pace is slow at the start but magnetic performances keep the show interested. Binge worthy.

SEASON 2 PLEASE. I can't understand all the negative reviews. It was slow to start, the acting was a bit off at the start. Some things may not make sense but it depends on your perspective. Such as not using her powers in dire situations, she has not become accustomed to calling them on demand. Don't get me started on the race thing, no matter what side you argue at the end of the day it's fiction fantasy and anything goes. I'm a BIG fan of medieval fantasies and DnD, so I did love this. I love the fey and I found all the characters are really interesting. I also loved the high fantasy setting, it also had a storybook feel to it, beautiful :)

This show took its time planting seeds for different characters and story lines and it was really enjoyable! Are there a few bumps along the road? Yea, sure. But it is definitely worth a watch!

I was very excited to stand watching this but I just can't stand Nimues theatrical acting! It feels so Broadway! It's sooo bad! Feeling arent seen or felt as real but over exaggerated! The story feels all over the place. It's confusing and it leaves you with lots of questions. The characters all seem dumb and it's just frustrating to watch their decision making!! I kept watching think it would get better and hoping that it does NOT, in my opinion! I hope the first season is just about introducing characters and kinda getting a story ,and hoping for the next season things are more explained and are a bit more detailed

Just finished watching it and I loved it and everything about it. And hope to see the new seasons and episodes to come.
  • Aug 28, 2020
This show honestly feels like it was made by some AI, set to construct a story using a mix of fantasy tropes and modern progressive themes. It is one of the worst things I've seen on Netflix.
  • Aug 27, 2020
I really enjoyed this and I think a second season could be even greater as its found its footing. Really great performances all around.
